Ultraviolet Stabilizers
Question:
Hello Professor Polymer, I recently came across a product drawing stating that the material used is "AAS". After sourcing from a different area, I still could not find the full name for this short form. Please advise me about what kind of material "AAS" stand for. The only clue I have from the drawing is that the material is from Hitachi Chemical.
- Stumped
Answer:
Dear Stumped - "AAS" is in the styrenics family of resins and stands for Acrylate acrylic styrene. For quick reference, you can find the most Common Acronyms used in the Plastics Industry on The Plastics Group web site. There is a comprehensive alphabetized listing of resin acronyms and their full names in my section of the site. Go to www.plasticsgroup.com/professor_polymer.
And to enhance this section of the site with acronyms we don't currently have listed, TPG is running a contest. Just submit any new acronym and its full name and you will receive an embossed, metal, TPG key chain!
